What's the difference between a Certified Nursing Assistant / Home Health Aide and a Companion? |
|
Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides have specialized training that enables them to provide
personal (hands-on) care such as bathing, dressing, skin care, incontinence care, and helping
clients to remember to take their pills. The care they provide includes all of the services
that a Companion/Homemaker provides.
Companion/Homemakers provide socialization, conversation, grocery shopping,
meal preparation household tasks, and clean up. They may perform casual, cosmetic assistance such as hair brushing,
applying makeup, and filing and polishing nails. If the client needs to have a hand or elbow held to walk or get out of a chair
safely the companion/homemaker is able to assist.
Florida Law does not allow companion/homemakers to provide personal, hands on care. Be cautious if you have considered
service through a companion/homemaker service.

How is a caregiver screened? |
|
Each caregiver is carefully screened through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, through Pinellas County Public
Records, and through the Agency for Health Care Administration (an agency of the State of Florida). Each
person's past work record is investigated. Our background screening goes well beyond that of most other registries.
We are more strict in our selection than state requirements.

How is my caregiver selected? |
|
Before the start of service, we will meet with you. We will listen to your needs and preferences.
A worker will be selected with the skills and personality that we believe match your needs. The worker arrives at your residence
on the first day of service and provides care. At the end of the day, you decide if you are satisfied with the worker, or if a change
should be made.
