Will Medicare or any other insurance pay for this service?

Medicare does not pay for long term care. We will assist you with filing for any insurance you have.
Why use a Southern Home Health Care caregiver rather than hiring your own?
Southern Home Health Care gives you the security of knowing that:

  • Background checks are performed that exceed legal requirements
  • References are thoroughly checked
  • All workers are trained in accordance with state statutes
  • State of the art remote time tracking that eliminates any question about time of arrival and time of departure. You pay only for the time your worker is working for you.
  • If you are ever dissatisfied with service rendered, you have a resource where your concerns will be heard and problems addressed.

What’s the difference between a Certified Nursing Assistant / Home Health Aide and a Companion?
Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides have specialized training that enables them to provide personal (hands-on) care such as bathing, dressing, skin care, incontinence care, and helping clients to remember to take their pills. The care they provide includes all of the services that a Companion/Homemaker provides.Companion/Homemakers provide socialization, conversation, grocery shopping, meal preparation household tasks, and clean up. They may perform casual, cosmetic assistance such as hair brushing, applying makeup, and filing and polishing nails. If the client needs to have a hand or elbow held to walk or get out of a chair safely the companion/homemaker is able to assist.

Florida Law does not allow companion/homemakers to provide personal, hands on care. Be cautious if you have considered service through a companion/homemaker service.

How is a caregiver screened?
Each caregiver is carefully screened through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, through Pinellas County Public Records, and through the Agency for Health Care Administration (an agency of the State of Florida). Each person’s past work record is investigated. Our background screening goes well beyond that of most other agencies. We are more strict in our selection than state requirements.

How is my caregiver selected?
Before the start of service, we will meet with you. We will listen to your needs and preferences. A worker will be selected with the skills and personality that we believe match your needs. The worker arrives at your residence on the first day of service and provides care. At the end of the day, you decide if you are satisfied with the worker, or if a change should be made.

Can our service be provided in an Assisted Living Facility, Nursing Home or Hospital?
Absolutely. If you feel that you or your loved one needs a little extra TLC while in a facility or hospital, we can be there for you.

What happens when the caregiver is sick?
If for some reason your caregiver cannot make it to work, he or she will call to notify you. We will seek a suitable substitute for you.

What if I don’t like the caregiver?
We will work with you until you are matched with a caregiver that meets your needs. Your complete satisfaction is important to us.

Who pays the caregiver?
Southern Home Health Care pays the caregiver and all of the payroll taxes for the caregiver. Southern Home Health Care meets all of the Federal and State of Florida reporting requirements. The caregiver receives a W-2 at year end. You have no liability. Southern Home Health Care provides workers compensation, insurance and unemployment insurance for each of its caregivers.

Why choose Southern over any other nurse agency?
  • Competitive Rates
  • Locally owned and operated means more personalized care for you
  • Caregivers who are screened more stringently than the law requires
  • Southern Home Health Care has a unique, state of the art telephonic time keeping system. Worker time is tracked to the minute. No guessing approximate arrival and departure times. You only pay for time actually worked.
